Your tasty, healthy food and handmade items will be waiting for you when you arrive for pickup at the market on Wednesday between 4 and 7 pm in the Breezeway at Nightbird Books in Fayetteville. You can also stop by to shop at the farmers’ tables on Wednesday if you aren’t able to place an order ahead.

NEW this week

  • Dandelion Peace Flower Botanicals has a new batch of soap ready, a wonderful almond soap that’s sure to please. And they’re introducing a facial elixir skin care product with rosemary and thyme.
  • Blue Pony Bakery does it again! Something new every week, and this time it’s new varieties of bread, cookies, and granola bars, as well as a special treat for the canine companion in your family—Cody’s Crunchy Dog Treats.
  • If you haven’t tried it yet, check out Figgieville’s Pecan Torte and give it a try—it is a most delicious people treat.
  • Vegetables are taking a bit of a break this month, but spinach and chard are back this week. Thanks to Beyond Organics!
  • Keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks for a new batch of beef from Green Fork Farm.

The Dig In! Food and Farming Festival is coming up soon in Fayetteville on February 28, March 1 and 2. Join us to learn about and celebrate food and farming with classes, workshops, films, discussions, opening reception, keynote address, seed swaps, information and vendor fair, food, and children’s activities. This year’s keynote speaker is Brad Lancaster, an expert on water harvesting, water management, and permaculture (more about Brad at harvestingrainwater.com).

In addition to a full day of programming for the community on Saturday, this year the festival will include a Farmer Friday program which includes workshops for farmers, advanced gardeners, and water management enthusiasts. The festival will also feature films in the afternoon on Thursday, and in the evenings on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Information and passes available at diginfestival.com. Don’t miss it!

It’s time to place your order for this Wednesday’s market! Don’t forget it’s almost Valentine’s Day, so place your order or stop by the market for some extra special goodies! Look for honey, soap, sugar scrub, lip balm, hand salve, homemade granola, olives, bread, and many other wonderful gifts. What about dinner? Don’t forget to place your order by Monday at midnight for fresh, naturally grown and artisan products to pick up at the market on Wednesday.

NEW THIS WEEK: Figgieville has a fresh batch of olives with some new flavors and old favorites, and is now bringing us fresh olive oil straight from the grower in California!

Blue Pony Bakery keeps introducing new baked goods, and this week is one you are sure to love—with a name like Peanut Butter Energy Bites, how can you resist? For breakfast or a snack, they’ll keep you going!

This week we also have plenty of other baked goods, as well as honey, eggs, greens, chicken, beef, pork, microgreens, and some truly wonderful soap, lip balm, sugar scrub, body oil, and salve. You can’t go wrong with one of these as a gift for Valentine’s Day, and it’s coming up fast! Or consider giving an adorable gift bag of market tokens for your loved ones to use at Green Fork Farmers Market, either online or at the farmers’ tables at the market.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The 2013 Dig In! Food and Farming festival is set for February 28, March 1 and 2 at the UA Global Campus on Center St. in downtown Fayetteville. Focused on local, sustainable, and organic food and farming, this year’s programs include: an after-school film and activities for children and families on Thursday afternoon; feature films Thursday evening; Friday workshops for farmers, aspiring farmers, experienced gardeners, and water conservationists; opening reception and films Friday evening; and on Saturday there’s a full day of classes, films, discussions, food tastings, seed swaps, information and vendor fair, children’s activities, and a keynote address by water harvesting expert Brad Lancaster. We are very happy to continue bringing you high quality, local, naturally grown and handmade products throughout the winter. This week we have greens, turnips, eggs, honey, bath and beauty products, olives, chicken, beef, pork, and microgreens. Blue Pony Bakery is offering 2 new scrumptious snack bars—Fruit and Nut Granola Bars and Pecan Pie Bliss Bars, both made with delicious, nutritious, organic ingredients.

Greens and eggs have slowed down a little in the low light of winter. Best to preorder and reserve what you want so you know it will be waiting for you when you arrive at the market. We also have some items available for sale on our tables at the market, so if you don’t have a chance to place an order, come on by and shop.

It’s a good idea to preorder, as some items are in limited supply right now. Then you can pop in to the market to pick up your order on Wednesday from 4-7 pm in the Breezeway at Nightbird Books. If you aren’t able to place an order by Monday at midnight, you can also shop at the farmers’ tables at the market on Wednesday.

We have a lot of vendors out of town this week for the holidays, so we won’t be able to have a market on Wednesday, December 26.
