Dear Green Fork Farmers Market Customers,

Now you know that summer is coming—Green Fork Farm has basil available this week. They are also offering lovage, an herb that is not as well known but is infinitely useful. It has a celery flavor and can be used in its place. We have lots of other delicious herbs available too—parsley, sage, oregano, mint, thyme, chives, fennel, and cilantro. If you don’t usually use fresh herbs, give them a try! They are so much more flavorful than dried herbs and make each dish special. If you aren’t sure, ask at the market for help deciding how to use them to enhance your gourmet (and everyday!) cooking.

Many of you have asked about bones for making broth, and now is your chance to get them at a great price. BlackSheep Ranch has lamb soup bones on special this week. These make rich, nutritious stock you can use in everything—soups, stews, sauces, rice, quinoa, savory oats, and much more. Use it in place of water in many of your favorite recipes to add tons of flavor and nutrients. These bones are also great dog treats!

Don’t forget about the upcoming workshops offered by Great Fermentations. This week’s class is on sourdough bread, and a later one is on the basics of fermentation, making kefir and sauerkraut. Here are the links for more information about the classes and signup:

You can place your pre-order from now until Tuesday at noon. We’ll be in the Breezeway at Nightbird books on Wednesday 4-7 pm for pickup, 205 W. Dickson St. We’ll also have products for sale on our tables, so stop by if you aren’t able to place an order.
